Class Overview
The IICRC Stone, Masonry, & Ceramic Tile Cleaning Technician (SMT) course is a two-day hands-on style learning experience.
This course will give you the knowledge and skills needed to perform both basic and advanced procedures for the cleaning and maintenance of natural stone, ceramics, and other man-made floors. Emphasis will be placed on protecting surfaces, technicians and building occupants.

In this 2-day almost ALL HANDS-ON seminar, you will learn how to perform all routine, periodic and restorative cleaning procedures for LVT (luxury vinyl tile and plank) VCT (vinyl composition), sheet vinyl, and all other vinyl floors. Linoleum, rubber, epoxy, and wood floors are also discussed. Learn what floors require floor finish (wax) and which do not. Learn how to strip, scrub, scrub and recoat, buff, and burnish floors like a true professional!
Post-Construction Cleaning
Drywall dust, debris, glue blobs, dried paint drips, and scuffs are very commonly left behind when construction is done. Learn how to perform detailed cleaning of floors, carpet, windows, baseboards, light fixtures, and other surfaces. This one-day course explores the best practices for cleaning a facility after construction or remodeling projects.
Meet Your Instructor
Bob Merkt
Bob Merkt has been involved in the cleaning industry for more than 35 years. He is the owner of MEGA – The Merkt Educational Group and Associates. Bob is an IICRC-approved instructor, an invited speaker at industry events, author, and contributor to many industry publications. He is an IICRC Master Cleaner, and past chair of the IICRC Floor Care Technician (FCT) Committee. Currently, He is the vice chair of the Stone Masonry Technician (SMT) course and a member of the FCT committee.

Class Location
IICRC Certification - Stone, Masonry, Tile Care Technician (SMT)
To earn certification, students must pass the certification exam, which is available for an additional fee paid directly to the IICRC.
Students must visit www.iicrc.org to register online and submit the exam fee prior to or on the first day of class.
Please keep a copy of your payment confirmation or have the means to log in at the end of the scheduled class to report to the instructor once exam registration is complete. You will need to provide proof of registration to complete the exam on the last day of training. Please contact the IICRC with any questions regarding this process.
