August 2024 - Illinois passed bill SB1087 that will require mold remediation companies to register with the state. As a pre-requisite, they'll be required to complete IICRC certifications – check out the specific language in the bill below.

Sec. 20. Rules. The Department shall adopt rules, under the Illinois Administrative Procedure Act, to implement a program establishing procedures for parties that provide mold remediation services to register with the State and provide evidence of an active third-party certification and evidence of financial responsibility. (Source: P.A. 95-456, eff. 1-1-08.)

The registration protocols and requirements will take some time to implement, but the key takeaway for restoration contractors in Illinois is to make sure your team is up-to-date on your IICRC training. Mold is dangerous, and you absolutely have to know what you're doing.
